SUFC STATEMENT

5 December 2016

The current Board of Scunthorpe United Football Club wish to state our deep concern at the ongoing spate of recent allegations into historic child abuse within football.

We, the Board, remain committed to upholding the highest possible standards of safeguarding for the young people at our club. Our designated Safeguarding Officer is Pete Wallace, who can be contacted at pete.wallace@scunthorpe-united.co.uk or on 01724 747683.

We are aware that there has been some mention on social media of possible instances of impropriety involving SUFC going back many years. We have brought the social media comments to the attention of the Police through SUFC’s own child protection policies, and will co-operate with any enquiries Humberside Police decide to make.

If any person should feel that they have been the victim of any type of abuse while under the care of SUFC then we would implore them to get in touch with the Police or call the confidential 24 hour NSPCC helpline (0800 023 2642), that has been set up in conjunction with the FA immediately to register their concerns with trained professionals. This dedicated helpline has been commissioned by the FA and manned by experienced NSPCC officials specifically to give support and guidance for adults who were victims of abuse in childhood within the football industry.

NSPCC helpline: 0800 023 2642.
