Will Evans

Scunthorpe United completed the signing of experienced centre-back Will Evans ahead of the 2023-24 season following his departure from Boreham Wood.

The commanding defender arrived at the Attis Arena after two successful years with Boreham Wood, where he made 79 appearances and helped the club reach the National League play-offs. By the time of his arrival in North Lincolnshire, Evans had amassed almost 400 senior appearances and established a reputation as one of non-league football's most dependable defenders.

Evans began his career with Fairford Town and Cricklade before joining Swindon Town's Centre of Excellence. Loan spells with Hereford United and Newport County followed, with Hereford eventually securing his services on a permanent basis.

A three-year spell at Eastleigh saw him make around 100 appearances, before further successful stints with Aldershot Town and Chesterfield. Across both clubs, Evans became renowned for his consistency, leadership and reliability, attributes that continued during his time at Boreham Wood.

Since arriving at Scunthorpe United, Evans has proven to be a key figure at the heart of the Iron defence. Following an impressive first campaign with the club, he earned a contract extension that kept him at the Attis Arena beyond the end of the 2024-25 season.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Evans played a pivotal role in Scunthorpe's promotion back to the National League, making 42 appearances as part of a defensive unit that broke both club and National League North clean-sheet records. His experience, organisational skills and commanding presence were instrumental throughout the season, culminating in play-off success and a return to Step One football.

Evans carried that form into the Iron's first season back in the National League, continuing to provide leadership and stability at the back. As one of the squad's senior figures, his experience and consistency remain invaluable assets to Andy Butler's side, earning himself a further year’s contract in the summer of 2026.
