Scunthorpe United secured the signing of experienced striker Danny Whitehall ahead of the 2023-24 season following his departure from National League side Eastleigh.
The forward arrived at the Attis Arena with an impressive goalscoring pedigree, having netted 23 goals across two seasons with the Spitfires. During his final campaign on the south coast, Whitehall scored 14 times in all competitions, including the winning penalty in Eastleigh's victory over the Iron in March 2023.
Following youth spells with Liverpool and Rochdale, Whitehall began his senior career in non-league football with Southport, Marine and Prescot Cables before embarking on a unique journey to the United States.
While studying in America, Whitehall represented SIU Edwardsville Cougars and Hastings College, earning widespread recognition for his goalscoring exploits. During his time with Hastings, he broke records by scoring 93 goals in 75 appearances and received the prestigious NAIA National Player of the Year award, alongside numerous other individual honours. He also featured for Chattanooga FC and Bugeaters in club football during his time overseas.
Returning to England in 2019, Whitehall enjoyed an outstanding spell with Maidenhead United, scoring 18 goals in 42 appearances before earning a move to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock. After impressing north of the border, he joined Eastleigh in 2021 and further cemented his reputation as one of non-league football's most effective forwards.
Since arriving at Scunthorpe United, Whitehall has established himself as a key figure in the club's attack. His first season in claret and blue saw him become one of the Iron's leading attacking threats, combining intelligent movement, aerial ability and clinical finishing to make a significant contribution in front of goal.
During the promotion-winning 2024-25 campaign, Whitehall played a vital role as the Iron secured a return to the National League. His goals, experience and tireless work ethic proved invaluable throughout the season, while his ability to lead the line and bring teammates into play made him a crucial component of Andy Butler's side. He scored what he refers to as the “forgotten goal” in the National League North Play-Off Final against Chester, putting the Iron in the lead in the first half of the game, and paving the way for promotion.
Whitehall carried that influence into the 2025-26 season as Scunthorpe adapted to life back at Step One. As one of the squad's senior figures, he continued to provide leadership both on and off the pitch, while his experience, physical presence and eye for goal remained important assets in the National League.
The son of former professional striker Steve Whitehall, goalscoring runs in the family, and Danny's career has been built on a proven ability to find the back of the net. His experience across England, Scotland and the United States has helped shape him into one of the most accomplished forwards in the Iron squad.
