Scunthorpe United's pre-season encounter against Skegness Town has been brought forward by 24 hours to Tuesday, July 14th (7pm kick-off) to avoid a potential fixture clash should England progress to the semi-final of the World Cup.
This match is one of the many multiple pre-season friendlies that the Iron are taking part in, and it will take place at Skegness Town’s home turf at the MKM Stadium (historically known as the Vertigo Stadium), where we will be welcomed by the Lilywhites, who play their football in the United Counties League Premier Division North.
With England progressing to the quarter-final on Monday morning, and the next tie taking place on Saturday, both clubs have mutually agreed to bring the game forward just in case the Three Lions progress.
A fixture that has been documented merely a few times during Scunthorpe’s previous pre-season preparations, the last time that the Iron met the Lilywhites would, in fact, come during last season’s pre-season campaign, when Andy Butler’s Scunthorpe side ran out comfortable 3-0 victors courtesy of a trio of goals from Callum Roberts, Declan Howe and trialist Okera Simmonds.
