Given yourself a goal to lose weight or get into shape in 2026? You can do it as part of a team, with Man v Fat in Scunthorpe recruiting!
Man v Fat is a football league and program for men with a BMI over 27.5 that combines weekly matches with weight loss support, coaching, and community to help members lose weight, get fit, and improve mental health, rewarding both goals scored and pounds lost with points and trophies. It offers a fun, supportive environment with qualified referees, digital resources, and team accountability, tackling obesity through a holistic approach to health and wellbeing for men.
Mathew Brown, a supporter of the club and recently given his time and resource to assist with the Iron's project to install sleepers outside the Attis Arena to enhance the visuals connecting the West Car Park to the stadium, changed his life by using Man v Fat, losing over seven stone. By his own admission, he couldn't run 10 yards at one stage in his life, but has since ran marathons. He threw himself into losing weight at the start of 2022 when he realised that chasing his then two-year-old son around the garden had left him feeling exhausted.
While Man v Fat includes football, the programme is certainly not about footballing ability. It's weight loss first, and football second, and all the positive social aspects of being part of a group.
Meeting each Friday at Frederick Gough School between 7pm and 9pm with three fixtures taking place each week, you can learn more and sign up by clicking here.
