This Christmas, Scunthorpe United and their charitable arm, the Iron Foundation, have linked up with long-term club sponsor Lincolnshire Co-op to support their recently launched Secret Santa campaign.
Prior to our encounter with Braintree Town last weekend, the Iron provided Lincolnshire Co-op with one of our outdoor wooden huts that can be seen on arrival at the Attis Arena, in order to collect donations for the Scunthorpe food bank, the Blue Door and the Salvation Army.
In a recent video released across both the clubs and Lincolnshire Co-op's social media platforms, players and officials from United could be seen supporting the initiative, issuing a plea for the donation of much-needed items such as food essentials, sanitary and toiletry products or a new unwrapped gift for a disadvantaged children, they will be also accepting cash donations in order to purchase these items.
Following the event, Andrew Bullivant, Senior Community Coordinator at Lincolnshire Co-op, said: "On behalf of our whole team at Lincolnshire Co-op, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who donated items at last weekend’s home game against Braintree Town. In total, an amazing 307 items were donated and gifted to three local groups through our Secret Santa campaign. This includes Scunthorpe Salvation Army, Scunthorpe Foodbank, and The Blue Door, that each do amazing work locally.
“There is still time to donate food in our food stores, toiletries in our pharmacies, or new toys to our travel branches. Donate what you can, and feel the joy of giving this Christmas.”
The Iron has a dedicated blue bucket in the club shop for any further donations. Once this is collected, our club staff are still able to take donations, which will be forwarded on to Lincolnshire Co-op.
