Elliott Whitehouse grabbed the deserved late equaliser for the Iron after dominating large parts of the game in front of an inflated crowd at Glanford Park. The point registered made it four points in three days and seven points from the last four games.
Speaking to Iron Player following the game, he said: “I thought the lads played really well.
“Obviously, from the game against Halifax, I thought we did great to carry on that performance against Bromley. I think the fans really helped us - the 12th man - to help us get that equaliser.”
United had a day less to prepare for the game following a tough exertion on Wednesday night at FC Halifax Town in front of the BT Sport cameras, but Pugh drew to a number of factors, including the home crowd, which aided their momentum.
“It’s more of a mental thing,” he stated.
“The buzz around the club, with the new owner coming in, pushed us through to put that performance in. I didn’t think we deserved to go behind. The whole 90 minutes, we performed well.
“In the first half, we had a few chances where we could have gone 1-0 up, but we deserved the point, if not three points. Personally, I think we should have got three, but we we have to take the positives. They are high up in the league, so to get a point from them is good for us.
“We have to build on that now. The lads are working hard in training and the performances are showing that.”
The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the heart of the Scunthorpe midfield in recent weeks and had developed a strong partnership with Fin Shrimpton prior to his injury. Mason O’Malley and Elliott Whitehouse have since come into the side, with Pugh adapting to the new system and teammates seamlessly.
“Anyone who comes in, all we ask is for 100 per cent and that’s what they’ve done,” he continued.
“Especially for Elliott coming in, not playing for a while and then playing two games back-to-back. I thought he’s been a standout for us. For me, every game is a positive.”
With another promotion-chasing side in Barnet travelling to North Lincolnshire on Friday night, the Iron midfielder called for a replication of the atmosphere under the lights at Glanford Park.
“We need the fans to come back on Friday night, under the lights, and hopefully this time we can get three points for them,” he said.
“I don’t know how to explain the atmosphere on Saturday. As a player, it gives you a buzz that you can’t really explain. I think the fans deserve it. They’ve stuck behind us through the tough period, but now we move onto bigger and better things hopefully. We have to keep putting the performances in and start climbing the table.”
