Profiling our new academy intake

24 May 2022

Academy manager Tony Daws has profiled the eight new first year apprentices (Under-17s) inducted into our Under-18s set-up ahead of the 2022-23 season.

We announced those details recently, which can be accessed by clicking here. Here’s Tony’s overview of the players, whose photos can also be seen above…

JOSH MURTAGH
We're scouting for players all the time and Josh came to our notice late on in his Under-16 season. He was recommended to us, has played in games and did really well, impressing the staff. He's from Solihull, already 6ft 1in and we feel a full-time environment will help him build on that framework.

EWAN OXBOROUGH
Ewan is 6ft 3in and has a strong build. He's another that's only just come to our notice towards the end of the season. He played for the Under-18s away at Harrogate, doing really well. He's from Rotherham and is another who we feel can develop in this type of environment.

LUCAS DICKINSON
He's from the north east and is a right-back, who came on trial to us from Boro Rangers. He played in Under-16 games towards the end of the season, doing really well. He's 5ft 8in, quick, technically good and a modern day full-back.

JOSHUA CUNNINGHAM
Josh is 6ft 2in and a right-footed centre-half from Leicester. He joined us recently following a successful trial. He's whole-hearted and has an appetite for defending, is good in the air, is a hard-working lad, wants to listen and develop.

FINN ABRAHAM
Finn has been with us for a long time and is about 6ft 1in. He's right-footed and from the Hull area. He can play centre-half and also central midfield. His attitude is excellent, he has an effervescent character and has been around the Under-18s team for over a year now.

HARVEY CRIBB
Obviously a lot of people know about Harvey's qualities. He's around 6ft, a box-to-box midfielder who gets up and down the pitch, gets his foot in and works extremely hard. He's a nice, modest lad and has had a great opportunity this past season being involved with the first team.

SHAY LARKIN
He's a striker, who's also from the north east. He was a team-mate of Lucas Dickinson at Boro Rangers. He's technically good, stands at 6ft and is right-footed. He presses for the team and has a great appetite for finishing off the attack as well.

CHARLIE BURDEN-WHITTLETON
He joined us at Under-16s level and is from Grimsby. He's 5ft 10in and a quick, right-footed striker who works really hard in and out of possession to make runs down the sides and in behind defences. He's good at getting the ball back too. He is a team player and has an excellent attitude.
