The Iron recorded a confident victory in the FA Cup first round at Forest Green Rovers, who were then in non-league.
Gary McSheffrey put Scunthorpe ahead midway through the first half when he rifled home a shot from long range.
They doubled their lead after the break when McSheffrey cut from the right to power his second past Sam Russell.
Lee Hughes almost put Rovers back in it soon after with a drive from distance but Scunthorpe held on to go through.

Scunthorpe stretched their winning streak to five games with fine second-half strikes from Alex Gilliead and Abo Eisa after Forest Green striker Matty Stevens had missed the chance to put his side ahead from the penalty spot.
Rovers edged the first half, with the best chance arriving as Liam Shephard and Jack Aitchison traded passes for Farrend Rawson to arrow in a strike which Rory McArdle cleared off the line in the 19th minute.
Scunthorpe eventually broke the stalemate just before the hour. Gilliead was afforded time and space to run unopposed and slam the ball beyond Lewis Thomas from the edge of the box.
Eisa made it 2-0 with a fierce 25-yard drive that flew into the top corner as the Iron upstaged the hosts on a controversial day despite finishing a man down with Levi Sutton sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time.

McATEE WINS IT IN 2020

John McAtee bagged the only goal of the game to secure the Iron just their second league win in nine outings.
Both sides had chances in the first half but neither keeper was tested, but the Iron took the lead immediately after the restart.
McAtee fired into the bottom corner in the 46th minute, after good work from Abo Eisa, to complete the double over Mark Cooper's side.
The forward could have doubled his tally but was well kept out by Lewis Thomas, and was once again frustrated by Thomas after beating James Perch.
Centre-back Farrend Rawson squandered a great chance for a late leveller when he headed over from close range.
