Taft speaks ahead of long trip to Yeovil

9 December 2022

Centre-back George Taft has spoken to the media ahead of the Iron’s trip to face Yeovil Town this weekend.

Speaking on training this week, following the defeat on Saturday, Taft said: “It’s been tough obviously, we’ve been put through the paces and it’s just about preparing ourselves for Saturday.”

Going into the game on Saturday, against a team United defeated 2-1 at Glanford Park at the start of the campaign, he added: “We’re going there to come away with three points, it’s going to be a totally different fixture for both teams, we’ve both had different starts to the season and I think we have to treat it as a fresh start as it was at the start of the season.”

On where George believes, as a team, they can improve he says: “We have to be more resilient, in the past couple of games we’ve taken the lead and it’s about keeping that lead, making sure we keep the pressure on, not sitting back after we get the goal, continuing to push higher up and trying to get the next goal.”

When asked if he thinks that the Iron can kick on now and start picking up points in the second half of the season, Taft said: “Definitely. It’s a difficult period, there are a lot of games in quick succession, and a lot of games to start getting some points and to turn the season around. The only way we can do that is with points on the board.”

After the recent changeover with Tony Daws going back to the academy manager position and Michael Nelson stepping into the interim manager role, George said: “We’ve played some games where we have played some really good football, and it’s just about taking training into games as well as - showing what they’re doing is right and replicating what they want.”

On his partnership with defensive partner and current team captain Andrew Boyce, he said: “I think off and on the pitch, we get on really well and work well together, but we could both communicate a bit more with the people around us and help the young lads through. As an aspect that is something we definitely have to improve on, but I do think we have a good partnership.”

Finally, on the importance of the fans support, Taft said: “Their support definitely makes a difference, in the recent weeks they’ve been right behind us and I think that’s a positive for the club as well as the team.”
