Midfielder Myles Hippolyte provided his reaction to iFollow Iron after scoring a penalty that gave the Iron the lead in their 3-1 loss at Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Reflecting on the game, he told iFollow Iron: “It’s frustrating because we should have at least got a draw out of this game. I felt they were good at times, they passed the ball well and on occasions they were a threat.

“We worked on certain things that were going to allow us to get opportunities to score and we did, that’s why we've got the penalty and other opportunities, but it’s about executing it and trying to hold onto a lead and be the winning side.

“We need the winning mentality which we haven't got at the moment. It’s something we need to learn because games are coming thick and fast and we want to get results and climb up the table. I know everyone in the changing room is hurting.”

Commenting on his goal which came from the penalty spot, Hippolyte said: “I’m happy with scoring the goal but now it means nothing because we haven't won the game. I want to be in the box, scoring and helping the team in that way but it’s frustrating when your efforts feel empty. It was good to score but I would have rather had the three points and walked away from here happy to have climbed up the table.”

Talking about making his 11th league start of the season, he continued: “I’m delighted to be playing as many games, that’s all I ever wanted when I came here. I wish it was in better circumstances and I was getting the results. I know when I get games under my belt performances will get better. I just need to stay focused, keep working hard and hopefully we can do more and things will turn around.”

Looking ahead to the next game at home on Tuesday night against Leyton Orient, he said: “Every game is going to be big this season regardless of who it is, we need to get points and climb the table to stay in the league. We need to perform.”
