Report: Rotherham United U18s 6-3 Iron U18s

The Iron's Under-18 side were beaten 6-3 away at Rotherham United on Thursday night in their final game of the season in the Youth Alliance Merit League.

Played on astroturf due to the Millers' main New York Stadium pitch undergoing its summer maintenance (the game would have been played there the previous Saturday had it not been postponed due to the weather), Cameron Wilson scored twice, including one from the penalty spot, with substitute Nat Wallace also on target.

The Millers, who had a number of second year trainees playing compared to one from the Iron, found themselves two goals up inside the opening 10 minutes.

They were awarded and converting a penalty in the fourth minute before sending a header into the bottom corner to double their advantage soon after,

The Iron hit back through Wilson, who converted from the spot when the visitors won a penalty of their own in 24th minute.

Scunthorpe were then level just nine minutes later, when Wilson capitalised on a loose ball outside the area and bent the ball into the far corner to restore parity.

The Iron pressed for a third and Wilson came close again, but saw his well-struck free-kick saved by the home goalkeeper.

On the stroke of half time though, it was the Millers who found the fifth goal of the game as one of their strikers converted a dinked effort.

Rotherham started the second-half strongly, adding a further two goals in the opening eight minutes.

The first of those saw a player cut inside to fire home from the edge of the box, before the next was clinically finished from just inside the area.

Iron goalkeeper Jake Balme was forced into a strong save from a home forward soon after, following a ball into the box.

They then added a sixth with just under 20 minutes left to play, when one of their players headed home.

Scunthorpe pulled a goal back with nine minutes to play, through substitute Wallace. After a good build-up play, a cross came in from the left and he came across the far post to finish.

Lewis then came close to getting a further goal for the Iron, as the game ended 6-3 to the hosts.
