Main pitch renovations underway following pitch hires

24 May 2021

For the first time in two years, work has commenced to resurface the main pitch at the Sands Venue Stadium in preparation for the 2021-22 season.

Following the uncertainty last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pitch was not relaid ahead of the last campaign, with only surface work carried out. Fast-forward 12-months and the Iron will have a brand new pitch ahead of the upcoming year.

Once again in collaboration with Fineturf, work was quickly underway following the conclusion of a number of pitch hires over the past fortnight to ready the pitch for the first slice of action.

Additional work to the pitch ahead of 2021-22 includes extra drainage in the area closest to the Easy Buy Stand.

The work on our training pitch, across the West Car Park, commenced prior to the end of the season, with that surface set to be ready and available for the return to pre-season in July. That process began with the removal of the top layers before sand slitting took place. The slits are then backfilled and pressed before sand is spread across the surface.

The pitches are usually seeded using MM seed, which is a high quality sports and amenity seed range from Limagain UK - part of the Limagrain group the largest seed company in Europe.

As always, with the build up to the 2021-22 campaign just around the corner, all systems are go to ensure a quality playing surface for the foreseeable future.
