Iron start 2021-22 league season with Swindon home clash

24 June 2021

The Iron will open their 2021-22 campaign by hosting Swindon Town for the second time in three seasons.

The EFL draft fixtures for 2020-21 were finally revealed at 9.00am today, with Scunthorpe United’s Sky Bet League Two campaign kicking off with a visit from the Robins on Saturday, August 7th, 2021.

Our first away game of the campaign is a week later (Saturday, August 14th), which sees us visit Spotland to face Rochdale. That’s followed up with another away trip three days later at Walsall before back-to-back home games, the first of which against EFL debutants Sutton United in what will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

September starts with a trip to Northampton Town on Saturday 4th, before we welcome Exeter City seven days later. United will then travel to Carlisle before welcoming Port Vale on the following two Saturdays, respectively.

There are four away games in total during October, with games at Newport County, Harrogate Town, Barrow and Colchester United to contend with in what will be a busy month of travelling.

Scunthorpe’s shortest trip of 2021-22 is to Mansfield, with a visit to the One Call Stadium pencilled in for Saturday, November 20th. That away match is accompanied by three home games in the month, with Salford City, Leyton Orient and Bradford City journeying to the Sands Venue Stadium.

December begins with successive away trips to Stevenage and Hartlepool, while the Iron are also scheduled to be away on Boxing Day for the first time in four years, making a journey to Oldham.

2022 is brought in with a home clash against Carlisle United on New Year’s Day, while our longest trip of the season is a fortnight later when we will take on Exeter City at St James Park.

United’s first trip to Gander Green Lane to face Sutton is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th, with Good Friday seeing the side head to the capital to face Leyton Orient. Easter Monday will see the Iron welcome Stevenage.

Scunthorpe will end the campaign with a trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday, May 7th, with the final home game coming seven days prior against EFL returnees Hartlepool United.
