O'Neill speaks about his aims while with the Iron

23 July 2021

New arrival Tyrone O'Neill spoke to iFollow Iron after signing a two-year deal to become the club's latest summer addition.

The 21-year-old joins after leaving Championship side Middlesbrough earlier this summer and has impressed on trial, scoring the winning goal in Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over League One side Burton Albion.

He said: "I'm delighted to sign. I've been with the lads for the past week or so and really enjoyed it. They've pushed us hard in training but it's pre-season and you get that. It's only going to improve us for the season.

"Physically I'm getting there. I've only been in a week but prior to then I'd been training elsewhere. I've been welcomed by the lads and enjoyed it so far."

Speaking about the midweek win which he played 65 minutes of alongside the rest of the starting eleven, he continued: "It was a good team performance to be fair but when my chance came, I slipped it past the goalkeeper and it was good to score. The only pressure came from myself really but you're always going to get that in football."

Speaking about how he's looking to make an impact in the EFL now, he added: "I came through at Middlesbrough and learned the technical side but I obviously wanted to play men's football. I've had a couple of loan spells (at Hartlepool and Darlington) which has shown me the other side of it.

"Now I have my opportunity I want to show what I can do. I work hard, like to hold the ball up, use my body well, try and link play and hopefully I can score plenty of goals."
