Samuel Barrott to referee Carlisle United away clash

5 April 2021

Samuel Barrott will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league encounter against Carlisle United on Tuesday.

The West Riding-based official will travel to Brunton Park for his 27th game of the season and his 10th involvement in Sky Bet League Two this season. The current campaign is his first in the EFL as the man in the middle after being promoted to the National List at the end of last season.

His first game of the campaign was the Papa John's Trophy match between Morecambe and Rochdale which finished 2-1 to the away side. He issued two yellow cards on the night. Meanwhile, his latest encounter came on March 27th when he oversaw Grimsby Town's 1-1 home draw with Walsall. Again, he issued two cautions that day.

Barrott has taken charge of one previous Iron fixture, with that coming in the Papa John's Trophy earlier in the campaign at home to Mansfield Town. Scunthorpe lost that game 2-1, with Olufela Olomola netting. All three yellow cards on the night went to United, with Jai Rowe, Mason O'Malley and Ryan Loft all entering his notebook.

He's yet to referee a game involving Carlisle United competitively, so Tuesday will be his first involving the Cumbrians.

In 2019-20, he took charge of 17 games in the National League and FA Cup, issuing 44 yellow cards and two reds, while so far this season, in 26 games, he's shown 72 yellow cards and four reds.

On Tuesday, he will be assisted by Mark Cunliffe and Billy Smallwood, while Ross Joyce has been appointed as the fourth official.
