Lund: We let them grow into the game

29 October 2019

Midfielder Matthew Lund was disappointed not to take more from the away game against Salford City at the weekend.

The Iron drew 1-1 with the Ammies as United took a point on their travels, but he felt there was a clear gulf between the two sides.

He told iFollow Iron: “I thought when we got the first goal, we’d go on and score a couple more but we stopped playing. We played a little bit of the second half but probably a bit too late and we let them grow into the game.

“It was our own fault really – we should’ve taken the game to them and try and pass them off the park which we knew we could.

“You could tell the difference in the quality of the teams; when we got the ball down, we were a much better side.”

“We let them back in just towards the end of the first half which is a frustrating time for them to score,” he said.

“It’s always a sucker punch to lose a goal just before half time. You’ve just got to deal with it and go in, regroup and see if you can come out in the second half and get the next goal but it never happened.”

Lund believed he should have had a goal five minutes from time after being teed up by Lee Novak, but won’t stew on missed opportunities.

“I should’ve scored at the end but it’s just one of them things. We had half chances and they had half chances so it could’ve gone either way," he concluded.
