Preview: Boston United (H)

The Iron are back in action on home soil for a massive play-off semi-final against another side from Lincolnshire in Boston (3pm kick-off).

A great atmosphere is expected as over 7,700 tickets have been sold including home and away fans, for this weekend as the Iron go into this game with
momentum having won four games consecutively.

Last time out the Iron won 2-1 after coming from behind against Gloucester away from home. The hosts took the lead around the half hour mark thanks to a goal from Brandon Smalley. The Iron netted twice in the last 20 minutes of action to turn the game on its head, first a goal from Danny Elliott and then with less than 10 minutes to go Dion Sembie-Ferris won the game for the
Iron.

No winner has been found in the Iron's two fixtures against Boston this season, with the sides sharing the points each time. Away from home Connor Smith netted for Scunthorpe in the 75th minute before the hosts quickly responded just five minutes later when Jordan Richards struck late.

The Iron were 2-1 up at halftime after Danny Elliott had bagged a first half brace, in the 91st minute the visitors got a late equaliser through Jacob Hazel.

THE OPPOSITION

Boston ended the season in sixth place, and finished the season with the sixth best away form in the division.

The Pilgrims won their quarter-final play-off on penalties after having a stalemate draw over 120 minutes against Alfreton. They have now kept four consecutive clean sheets and will be demanding another clean sheet to boost their chances of a victory.

If there is one thing the Iron have learnt about Boston over the last two fixtures it is their resilience where they never give in.

Ex-Iron player Jai Rowe has become a crucial player for the opposition, after signing on a free transfer and now having made 31 appearances at right-back for the Pilgrims.

Another key player for Boston is ex-Iron striker Kelsey Mooney. The 25-year-old has netted 16 goals this season and is looking to score more crucial goals to get his side promoted.

THE OFFICIALS

The referee will be Zac Kennard-Kettle, while his assistants are Adewunmi Soneye and Thomas Harland. The fourth official is Thomas Wilson.

23 April 2024

Ticket information has been confirmed ahead of the Iron's play-off semi-final encounter against an opponent yet to be determined on Saturday, April 27th (3pm kick-off).

The one-off match at the Attis Arena to make the final - which could also be played on United's home soil should we progress - will either be against Alfreton Town or Boston United, with both teams going head-to-head in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

It is important to note that we are hosting the play-off semi-final on behalf of the National League and, although we are playing the game at home, it is defined as the league's fixture, and therefore there are no discounted, group booking or complimentary tickets available.

Please note, tickets will initially go on sale to season ticket holders only, granting those supporters the opportunity to get their tickets in advance with lower queues. Please see below for more details.
