Six additions to Under-23s squad

Scunthorpe United is delighted to have completed six further signings for the Under-23s squad.

Mason O’Malley, Omar Sanyang, Reon Potts, Jo Cummings, John McAtee and Jack Lambert join the previously announced Jai Rowe (all pictured in order above) in bolstering Russ Wilcox’s squad for the 2019-20 season.

O’Malley (18) is a left-back who joins following his departure from Huddersfield Town. He signed for the Terriers at Under-14 level from Hunslet Boys and has featured in Republic of Ireland training camps. Mason featured for the Iron on trial for a couple of games towards the end of last season.

Sanyang (19) is a winger who had previously been at Doncaster and impressed for the Iron in behind-closed-doors friendlies at the end of last season. Omar played in the 3-1 win over FBT International Academy and the 9-1 victory over RIASA in behind-closed doors friendlies towards the end of last season.

Potts (18) comes from Sheffield United, and is a versatile forward with explosive pace and an eye for goal. Reon has four goals to his name in Iron colours already having netted a hat-trick against RIASA and one against Sheffield United in behind-closed-doors friendlies at the end of last season.

Cummings (20) is a central defender who arrives from Charlton Athletic. Sheffield-born, he was previously at Sheffield United and has been on loan at Guiseley. Jo trialled for the club against the Blades in an encounter at Glanford Park towards the end of last season.

McAtee (19) comes from Shrewsbury Town and is a forward who came through their youth system and has had loan spells at Halesowen, AFC Telford, Ashton United and Curzon Ashton. John has previously worked under manager Paul Hurst and assistant manager Chris Doig at the Shrews and was invited to La Manga to train with the first team in the middle of last week.

Lambert (20) is a midfielder who has arrived from Dundee. Newcastle-born, he made five appearances for his previous club in the Scottish Premier League. Jack scored a total of two goals for the Iron in trial games, netting against FBT International Academy and a RIASA XI.
