After clashes with Dundee, Guiseley, Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and Alfreton Town, he feels the encounter against Danny Cowley’s side is exactly the test needed with the new League Two season just a week away.

The Imps won the division last season and preparing for life in League One, and it’s a fixture Hurst feels both sides will gain a lot from.

He told iFollow Iron: “It’s the game that’s probably more of an even contest. We’ve exchanged places in terms of the league we’re in and Lincoln will be very tough - there’s no doubt about that.

“They’ve introduced a couple of different players to what they normally might have done in the past, and Danny’s trying to improve his squad.

“It will be interesting to see exactly how they do play, but however they set up they’ll be very well-organised, hard-working and we’ll both be looking to get a lot out of that last game.

“After that we have a free week to prepare for Swindon (the first home league game).”
