David Coote to referee Lincoln City pre-season encounter

26 July 2019

David Coote will take charge of Saturday's pre-season home encounter against Lincoln City.

The Nottinghamshire-based official will travel to Glanford Park in preparation for his second season as a Select Group One match official and his tenth in the top four flights of English football.

He's taken charge of Scunthorpe matches on no fewer than seven previous occasions. His last encounter involving the Iron came back in February 2016 when he oversaw the slender 1-0 home victory against Southend United with Paddy Madden getting the decisive strike.

Of those seven games, four have come at Glanford Park. In those previous games, he's shown a total of 26 yellow cards and two reds. Josh Walker was the one United player dismissed in the Hartlepool United encounter in 2012, while Oldham's Jean Yves-Mvoto was the man taking an early bath a year later.

He's taken charge of three Lincoln City games in the past, with the last coming last October when he issued nine yellow cards in the Imps' 1-0 away defeat at Colchester United.

In 2018-19, he took charge of 29 games, issuing 107 yellow cards and six reds.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Matty Smith and Rob Atkin, while Martin Chester has been appointed as the fourth official.
