The 20-year-old joins from Leeds United for the rest of the season and arrives with a good reputation, after a run of games for the Elland Road side at the end of last season where he made a strong impression.
He’s made 10 appearances in total for the Whites, scoring in the 2-1 victory at Barnsley last term, and has also been capped at England Under-20s and Under-21s level in the last year.
Pearce told iFollow Iron: “I got a phone call today saying that Scunthorpe were interested and as soon as I heard the interest it was a yes straight away really.
“It’s only 45 minutes away from Leeds so it was a quick drive up and I got signed.
“I’ve looked at the last few results and we’ve been getting some good wins so hopefully we can carry that on.
“I like to attack as a full-back, but also defend as well. I have good set-piece delivery and like to get crosses into the box.
“I’m looking forward to it. They’re a good bunch of lads. I’ll introduce myself on Friday and get settled in.”
Speaking about the appearances for his parent club and his country so far, he continued: “I got my opportunity in March and just kicked on, played the last few games of the season and really enjoyed it.
“Scoring my first goal (against Barnsley) felt good. Maybe if I score again on Saturday I’ll have to improve my celebration!”
After Cameron Borthwick-Jackson was ruled out for around two months with a cartilage injury, and Lewis Butroid only just returning from a hamstring injury lay-off, the new arrival provides important competition in the left-back position.
Manager Stuart McCall was pleased with the final swoop of the transfer window, explaining: “We’re delighted to get Tom. He’s one we’ve had an eye on and we know a lot about him. He has a good pedigree.
“CBJ could be out for two months and Butty has been out for seven or eight weeks, and is struggling with a little spasm in his back at the moment as well.
“Although we have lads who can fill in there, we felt we needed a natural left-back or left wing-back, where Tom can play as well.
“It’s a good acquisition on loan for the rest of the season, and it will give him a chance to kick on and get some games under his belt.
“We’ll get him sorted out and training with us on Friday, and then we’ll look to plan for Barnsley away on Saturday.
“We’re very happy with the business we’ve done this month. Getting most of the lads in early was imperative and we’re quite happy with the strength of the squad we have. Hopefully we can continue our run, kick on and climb further up the table.”
