The Iron are in Carabao Cup first round action on Tuesday night as they play host to Derby County at the Sands Venue Stadium (7.45pm kick-off).
SCENE-SETTER
The game sees United look to bounce back from their 4-1 League Two loss at Cheltenham last weekend, and restore some pride with a strong showing against the Rams, who they will be hoping to cause a cup upset against.
The Championship side, now managed by Phillip Cocu, started their campaign with a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town before drawing 0-0 at home to Swansea City at the weekned. The team, then managed by Frank Lampard, got to the play-off final last year and have aspirations of going one better.
TEAM NEWS
Iron boss Paul Hurst confirmed to the press ahead of the game that Jordan Clarke will miss Tuesday's game with a quad injury, although it is hoped he won't be out for any longer.
Meanwhile, Kyle Wootton suffered concussion at the weekend and will also miss out. However, he will return to training on Friday all being well and it is hoped he'll come into contention for the home clash against Crawley Town this weekend.
Elsewhere, striker Kevin van Veen faces three-to-four weeks out with a knee injury, after coming off injured in the behind-closed-doors clash at Sheffield Wednesday last week.
Jordan Hallam will be out for at least another game with a hamstring injury sustained on the opening weekend of the season.
Andy Dales (hamstring), Clayton Lewis (thigh), Levi Sutton (knee ligaments) and Lewis Butroid (ankle) are out of contention due to injuries picked up in pre-season.
Meanwhile, James Perch returns to the squad as his three match suspension only applies to the league. The final game of that is against Crawley this weekend.
PAST MEETINGS
Our last encounter came in the same competition back in August 2012, when United beat Derby on penalties to seal a thrilling encounter.
Headers from Richard Keogh and Jake Buxton put the Rams two up, and Theo Robinson steered home another.
Andy Barcham replied but Buxton headed in again before Mike Grella netted, and Robinson's penalty was then saved before Bobby Grant made it 4-3.
Nathan Tyson made it 5-3 but Connor Jennings and Grant levelled in stoppage time.
Neither side could find a breakthrough in extra-time, and the game went to penalties.
After a total of 19 spot-kicks were taken before Jennings stepped up to give Scunthorpe a 7-6 lead, and it was all over when Tom Naylor rattled the crossbar with his effort.
