Miller: I just want to enjoy my football

22 August 2019

“I’m looking forward to getting started. I want to just enjoy my football,” newcomer George Miller told iFollow Iron after signing for Scunthorpe United on a season-long loan from Championship side Barnsley.

The latest acquisition is no stranger to the Sands Venue Stadium, having netted against the Iron in the past.

“It’s a great club; I’ve played here quite a lot. In my youth career, I scored a hat-trick here in the FA Youth Cup. When I was at Bury, I scored against Scunthorpe too,” he said.

He has already featured in the second tier for the Tykes this term, after spending pre-season with the South Yorkshire side.

“It’s been a good experience. They’re in the Championship so it’s a different standard and a lot more physical. I managed to get an appearance in the Championship,” he explained.

Miller is hoping to add goals to the Iron’s game. He said supporters can’t have any complaints about his work ethic, either.

He said: “I want to get in the team, get playing and get scoring goals. I give everything. As a fan, you can’t complain if someone is working hard."

He added: “Hopefully, I’ll score a few and get us up to the top end of the league.”

The 21-year-old will face competition from Lee Novak, once fit, and Kyle Wootton for a place in the Iron’s attack, but believes he will compliment his new teammates.

He praised them: “There are some great players. When he comes back, Lee Novak is a great player and Wootton is a big target man. I’m looking forward to getting to know the lads.”

The striker, who came through the ranks at Bury, has been disappointed to see the financial turmoil unfolding off the pitch at Gigg Lane.

He said: “Bury is my team and I hope they get out of it. I started at Bury and I loved it there. I went to Middlesbrough which was a good move for me. I grew up as a person.

“I went on loan to Bradford and scored a few but it wasn’t the greatest time because of relegation then I got a move to Barnsley.

“Now, I’ve come here and I can get settled and show everyone what I’m about.”
