Scunthorpe United’s latest signing Mark Beck gave his thoughts on putting pen to paper with the Iron, furthermore he provided an insight into his immediate goals for the remainder of the National League North season.
Firstly, Beck answered a question on his initial reaction to joining the club by saying: “I’m delighted to be here, meeting the lads today I can already tell it’s a good group down there. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the club, which is obvious given the set up that shows it should be a Football League club.
“There were some complications in the move given I was on loan at Gateshead, but luckily we managed to get those all sorted and now I’m looking forward to kicking on.”
As mentioned, Beck spent the opening to the 2024-25 National League season on loan from Solihull Moors to Gateshead, when talking about how he’s found his season so far he commented: “I’ve had a good start to the season with Gateshead and I really enjoyed my time there which I thank them for, they play a good brand of football and it was good to be part of.”
Beck joins the Iron with a wealth of National League North experience given his successful time with Darlington and reflected on the goals he scored by saying: “I had a good few seasons at this level with Darlington so I know the league and the teams quite well, hopefully I can carry on the form from the last time I was at this level for us.”
Beck is no stranger of the Attis Arena after featuring for his former club Solihull in the third round of the FA Trophy and mentioned that occasion during his interview: “I remember the crowd and how loud it was, you don’t get followings of that size at this level and one thing I took away from that tough game was the sheer volume and the atmosphere.
“Like I’ve said it’s a league club with a great fanbase, so it was a no brainer when the opportunity came about to sign here.”
It’s no secret that not only the club’s, but first team manager Andy Butler’s goal is to get promoted to the National League, Beck emphasised how he wants to help achieve this goal come the end of the season by saying: “It’s obviously the goal for everyone at the club, and we’re clearly not that far off it if you look at the league table. We just need to make sure we get back to what we were doing at the start of the season and hopefully with me coming in I can help push that over the line.”
