James Adcock will be the man in the middle for the Iron's away league clash against Macclesfield Town on Saturday.

The Nottinghamshire-based official will travel to Moss Rose for his fourth game of the season.

The Select Group Two referee is back in the middle after a long injury lay-off which kept him out of action from April 2017 until March 2019, missing the entirety of 2017-18 and taking charge of just one league encounter in 2018-19.

He qualified as a referee in 2000, aged 16, following in his father’s footsteps, who also officiated on the EFL. Adcock was appointed to the EFL as an assistant referee in 2008 and to the National List of Referees in 2011-12. He had also previously worked as a PE teacher at a secondary school for nine years.

His first game of the campaign was Newport County's 2-2 draw with Mansfield Town on the opening day of the season at Rodney Parade. He showed seven yellow cards and one red in the encounter. Meanwhile, his latest game came last weekend in League One when he took charge of Doncaster Rovers' 3-2 home win over Fleetwood Town.

Prior to his injury, Adcock was a regular match official in the Championship and completed the 2016-17 season having taken charge of 28 games, showing 88 yellow cards and two reds.

He's refereed the Iron on four occasions in total, most recently in October 2014 at Vale Park. He showed five yellow cards and one red on that night, with the dismissal going to Jennison Myrie-Williams on his return to his former club. In total, across the four games, he's shown 18 yellow cards and three reds.

Meanwhile, he's taken charge of Macclesfield Town on two occasions - their most recent being a 2-0 defeat at Southend United back in May 2012. His only othe game involving them came in a slender home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in February 2011 where three red cards were shown in stoppage time.

So far in this campaign, he has officiated in three encounters, showing 17 yellows and one red.

On Saturday, Adcock will be assisted by Mark Jones and Paul Hodskinson, while Elliott Swallow has been appointed as the fourth official.
