The Iron registered their first victory since the opening day of the season as they beat AFC Wimbledon 3-2 at The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday.
Striker Ike Ugbo got off the mark in Scunthorpe colours and was delighted to get the result for the team and to also score his first goal for the club.
Speaking to iFollow Iron about the importance of the game he said: “It was a big three points today.
“I think we needed that victory for our confidence, so now we can push on and continue to perform well out on the pitch.”
He continued by saying: “We had to make sure that we didn’t make the same mistakes as last week (against Rochdale).
“We know that we are good going forward and decent at creating chances, but it’s about the game management. Today, I think we did well to carry that out and get the victory.”
The 19-year-old signed on loan from Premier League club Chelsea until January and enjoyed celebrating his goal in front of the travelling Iron fans that made the long journey down the capital.
The striker said: “It’s always great to be able to go over and celebrate in front of the supporters. I think it’s important to appreciate the travelling fans that make such a long journey when they come here to support us.”
He continued: “It’s a really good feeling to be able to score for the team. Now I hope that I can build on that, push on and hopefully get some more goals to help the team.”
Speaking about the way he took his goal, he said: “Now I know how Ryan Colclough plays, I can read him well.
“He likes to go in and out and jink past lots of players so, I knew I just had to wait at the front post. I managed to get myself there and then finish first time.”
Scunthorpe are back in action on Saturday as they face Shrewsbury Town at Glanford Park, and the attacker expects another tough challenge.
“In the week we will practice and work hard to keep the confidence building,” he said.
“I just want to make sure that we can finish as high as possible in the league from a team’s perspective and hopefully push for promotion. If I can help by scoring as many goals as possible during the season then that’s great also.”
He also says the result against AFC Wimbledon will give the team a good confidence boost heading into the next weekend.
“We know what we are capable of doing out there, and hopefully we can go and get another three points again on Saturday.”
