United defeated AFC Wimbledon 3-2 last weekend, which was Stuart McCall’s first victory as manager.

Burgess told iFollow Iron: “It got us off the mark with the new manager so hopefully we can get back-to-back wins. It was good to get three points and that is what we want.

“We can learn from the things that we did not do so well on, take it into this weekend and hopefully get a clean sheet.”

The Iron return to Glanford Park on Saturday and the 22-year-old is eyeing a first home win of the season.

He said: “We are back at home so we need to put it on them and make sure we can get the three points. We want to try and win the game and win it with style.”

Burgess also believes that the Iron are getting closer to fully settling in with McCall as manager: “There are still a few things that we need to take on board that he wants us to do, but he has brought his style here.

“We are working on the training pitch and hopefully it shows in games.”
