Defender Charlie Goode says he’s sure his side have the capabilities to deal with the current spate of injuries, get positive results and climb the table.
Scunthorpe’s next game sees them visit Southend United on Tuesday night, with plenty to build on following an encouraging second-half performance against Portsmouth at the weekend.
Goode told iFollow Iron: “We came in at half-time 2-0 down and were obviously disappointed, and we just had to make sure we came back out, showed some fight and determination and tried to get something out of the game. For large spells towards the end, we maybe could have nicked something at the end of the day.
“We’ve played games at home where it’s been that kind of scoreline and folded, so it was good to show a bit of fight against a very good side and we could have got something.
“We have positives we can take but we still need to pick up results now. We picked up a good one last weekend (winning away at Bristol Rovers), need to show confidence in our game and get a big one on Tuesday night.
“Every time I’ve been to Southend it’s been a tough game and a hard place to go, but we are going to have to give our all until the last whistle. I’m sure we can go there and get a good result.
“They’re in a similar situation to us and will be looking for a win but hopefully we can get the victory and go above them.”
Speaking about the injury situation, he added: “It’s what football’s about. You go through these hard runs through injuries but I’m sure we can deal with that.
“There are a lot of games coming up but if you can pick up three or four results on the spin, it’s a totally different looking table. That’s what we’ll be seeking to do.”
