Ojo reacts to first Iron goal

8 October 2017

The Iron lost 2-1 to second placed Wigan Athletic on Saturday, despite a late surge of attacks from United.

It was Funso Ojo who ensured a nervy finish for the Latics with a late goal for United, and it marked his first in Scunthorpe colours since signing in the summer.

The 26-year-old discussed grabbing his first goal, the result and how the team will bounce back in an interview with iFollow Iron.

ON HIS FIRST GOAL AT THE CLUB…
FO: I’m happy to have scored a goal. I’ve said before that I’m not focused on goals but I’ll work hard for the team and if there’s a goal at the end then that’s good.

ON WHAT EFFECT THE GOAL HAD ON THE TEAM…
FO: It gave us a lift as then there’s only one goal difference. That gives you that extra bit of belief. However, it was quite late in the game so I wish it was a little bit earlier on.

ON THE WIGAN ATHLETIC GAME…
FO: We started out playing our game but then all of a sudden we started playing differently and more to their strengths. Wigan is a really good team. I haven’t played against all of the teams yet but I think from what I saw that they are going up. I think that we gave them confidence by playing the way that we did.

ON HOW TO PREPARE FOR ROTHERHAM…
FO: We need to focus on being more patient with the ball and switching the play. We need to let the opposition run after the ball and I think that that’s where we can hurt them more than we are now.

ON THE POSITIVES FROM THE GAME…
FO: When we pushed them back we got a lot of crosses in from the wings. However, we need to get more people into the box. The crosses and corners that Josh Morris brings are really good but we need to be more aggressive towards the ball to score.

ON HOW TO BOUNCE BACK…
FO: Every game is an important game so we want to get the points. We all know what we want at the end of the season, so we need to win. We need to work hard, especially after the last two league games, as we haven’t played how we want to play. We’ve got to start fresh on Monday and work hard to make sure we get the three points that we need.
