Clarke: Move quicker and start quicker

12 October 2017

Right-back Jordan Clarke believes the Iron need to play with more urgency if they are to record a victory this weekend when they travel to Rotherham.

He knows the Millers have quality in their side and they will have to be at their very best if they want to get something from the game.

Speaking to iFollow Iron, Clarke looked back on the last couple of games, while also previewing this Saturday’s clash.

ON THE ROTHERHAM GAME…
JC: It’s important to put in a very good performance. It is important for all of us to get the three points. We definitely want it.

ON THE WIGAN LOSS…
JC: We took too long to get going. I feel as though, when they had their man sent off, that’s when it was mainly all us. Their game plan was to let us have the ball at the back and sit off and we didn’t use it well enough. We didn’t get going quick enough and we need to start a lot quicker.

ON THE RESPONSE FROM A DEFEAT…
JC: The initial thoughts after a defeat are what went wrong, what we did do and what we didn’t do, but after that we all know what the bigger picture is and where we are at. Everyone calms each other.

ON LOOKING TO IMPROVE…
JC: When Shrewsbury come here it’s not going to be the same type of game. They’re not going to be able to impose themselves as we won’t let them. It’s a good learning curve and it’s good that it has happened this early on in the season. You don’t really want to have good momentum, picking up all these points and then have a bad second-half of the season. It’s up to us, when the time comes, to put that right.

ON ROTHERHAM UNITED…
JC: They’ve obviously got some good, quality players. They played in the Championship last year and they’re doing well. The lad up front Kieffer Moore is scoring a lot of goals, so we need to stop him and the people that feed him. We need to take the game to them. We need to move the ball quicker and we need to start quicker.

ON THE TEAM CONFIDENCE…
JC: I’m very confident, I always am. Every time I’ve played in the side out there, I’ve always been confident in the players around me, there’s no question about it.
