United won 2-1 at Bradford City on Tuesday night to make it five League One victories in a row, with Gilks making a crucial stop in stoppage time to seal the three points.

He spoke to iFollow Iron about that save, the recent form and what he is expecting from Charlton Athletic when they visit Glanford Park on Saturday afternoon.

ON TUESDAY’S WIN AT BRADFORD…
MG: We knew it was going to be a tough game on Tuesday night. The weather wasn’t great and they were coming off a good win at Wigan, so we knew we were up against it. Thankfully, we came out on top.

ON HIS LATE SAVE AT BRADFORD…
MG: I saw it late, it came through a crowd of bodies. I was lucky enough to get it up a bit and away so it wasn’t put in on the rebound. It cemented the win and you could see afterwards when all the lads were high fiving and hugging, just how much it meant to us.

ON CHARLTON ATHLETIC…
MG: Charlton are a great team, they’ve got a good squad and are very capable of getting promoted themselves. We’re not fearing them, but we will pay them respect. Hopefully, we come out on top and get another three points.

"We’re very confident, but you cannot get carried away. It’s only 19 games, we’ve got to take every game (win, lose or draw) level headed. We are positive in the dressing room, it’s a good environment."

ON THE DEFENCE…
MG: I’ve been pleased with them all season. They say I have got a little part in that as well with the communication. We look a very solid unit – we’re hard to beat, hard to break down and the lads put their bodies on the line. We’re very confident at the back and obviously it will be another test on Saturday, but one I’m sure we will overcome.

ON THE IRON’S FORM…
MG: We’re very confident, but you cannot get carried away. It’s only 19 games, we’ve got to take every game (win, lose or draw) level headed. We are positive in the dressing room, it’s a good environment. The lads are a great bunch, the work ethic is getting stronger and the mentality is as well, so hopefully we can continue this run and keep heading up the table. There are a few teams who are on similar kind of points at the top, but there is still a long way to go. We need to keep that winning mentality, keep focused on what we’re about and keep getting the wins.

ON THE RECENT CLEAN SHEET RUN…
MG: The goal on Tuesday was a tough one to take. It’s moved in the air and it’s come a long way. We’re more about getting wins, I’m not looking at clean sheets and records. It’s nice to get them, but first and foremost we need to win and keep at the top of the table.

ON CAMERON BURGESS…
MG: He’s a big unit and he will take some getting out of the way. People have got to contribute all over the pitch and it’s nice to see Cameron coming up with a couple of headers. It’s nice to see.

ON CHRIS LUCKETTI LEAVING TO BECOME THE MANAGER OF BURY…
MG: It came quite quickly. I wish him all the best. Ex-players want to be managers and he has had a good learning curve with the gaffer here and being at this good football club. It’s a progression in his career so good luck to him.
