Iron to face York City in pre-season

26 May 2017

Scunthorpe United will travel to Bootham Crescent to face York City in pre-season.

Graham Alexander will take the Iron to the National League North side on Wednesday, July 12th (7pm kick-off) as part of the first team's preparations for the 2017-18 campaign.

"I like to have one or two games reasonably early in the pre-season schedule as it gives the players something to look forward to. The players love playing football and it will give them something to work towards,” said Alexander.

“It'll be a decent test and we feel it'll be a good game for the players to get themselves up-and-running. It's built into the training programme so the players will go into it tired, as we will be training before the game and also the day after, but it's all about preparing for their exertions in the season."

The Minstermen finished 21st in the National League last season and were relegated to the tier below just 12 months after demotion from the EFL.

However, they did lift the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium following a 3-2 win over Macclesfield Town earlier this month.

Further friendlies/pre-season plans will be announced in due course.

The game is pay on the turnstile.
