Reflecting on the game, Gilks spoke to iFollow Iron about the result, the Saddlers' goal and his penalty save from Erhun Oztumer (diving low to his left early in the second-half).

ON THE 1-0 DEFEAT…
MG: It was disappointing to say the least. We didn’t really turn up in the first-half by our standards. I’m bitterly disappointed we conceded a goal, which was unfortunate - not a lot could have been done about it. We just didn’t influence the game at all in the first half. There are no easy games in this league. Coming to Walsall, who are mid-table, they are going to run around and you have got to do the same. For 45 minutes, we didn’t really compete which is disappointing.

ON WALSALL’S GOAL…
MG: It was probably going to be a comfortable save and I would have been able to push it away, but it has caught Neal Bishop in the face. It turned the ball the other side of me. It was disappointing, but it was not a goal where they have carved us open. It was early enough for us to get back into the game, but unfortunately we couldn’t.

ON HOW THEY CAN BOUNCE BACK…
MG: We’re not going to win every game, but you would rather lose a game playing really well. We will go in on Monday, look at it and put it to bed. Then we can look forward to the next game.

"It doesn’t really matter because the result is still 1-0. If we went and nicked one, then I probably would have been ecstatic about it. It’s nothing to really shout about."

ON HIS PENALTY SAVE…
MG: It doesn’t really matter because the result is still 1-0. If we went and nicked one, then I probably would have been ecstatic about it. It’s nothing to really shout about. After the save, we had a ten minute spell where we had a bit of a lift, but we just couldn’t the goal.

ON THE TRAVELLING IRON FANS…
MG: It was really cold, so fair play to them. It’s also disappointing that we couldn’t give them a better performance to make their journey home a little more enjoyable. We’re very grateful for them turning up.

ON THE IRON’S NEXT GAME VERSUS MK DONS…
MG: It’s a home game. We have got to dust ourselves off, work hard and rectify what’s been going wrong and go against Milton Keynes.
