Wallace aiming to go one step further

4 August 2017

Defender Murray Wallace is ready for another season at United, with the club hoping to go one step better than last term and win promotion.

Speaking to iFollow Iron, the 24-year old is excited to get going again after a positive pre-season, as he looks ahead to the AFC Wimbledon game at Glanford Park.

ON THE PRE-SEASON…
MW: It has gone well, tough as expected, but it was last season too. We went over to Austria again, for what was a tough week over there. We have had a few games that have got us ready for the start of the season. I’m feeling good fitness-wise. Like I said, tough is to be expected, but you put the work in and feel a lot fitter for it.

ON THE NEW SIGNINGS…
MW: It is good to bring in some more experience and we’ve brought in the young lad Cameron Burgess. I think bringing in a mix of young and old will help the squad.

ON DEFENSIVE SHAPE…
MW: However you look at it, defensively you would think we would be more solid with more numbers. I suppose attacking as well you get a bit more freedom with three, you maybe spread slightly more across the pitch and get further advanced. We are flexible though and can play a number of systems.

ON THE AFC WIMBELDON GAME…
MW: They were tough last season to play against, but you don’t know really know what to expect. Obviously both teams will be up for it and I do expect a tough game.

ON THE SEASON AHEAD…
MW: We want to go one step better than last season and I think if we can do that it would mean promotion. If you want to be up and around the promotion places then you have got to start the season well, so fingers crossed we can do that.
