IT'S BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE

15 March 2013

In his first interview for Scunthorpe, young goalkeeper Eirik Holmen Johansen claimed he had settled in very well at the club.

The 20-year-old has been brought in from Premier League giants Manchester City on a one month loan deal, following an injury to Sam Slocombe.

"It's been very good, the lads have all welcomed me into the group," Johansen told The Iron Player.

"It's been a great experience here in the first week.

"If you come into a place and no one welcomes you, you get the feeling you're doing it on your own.

"But it's been the complete opposite and it's been great."

The Norwegian stopper made his debut in competitive English football last Saturday against Coventry.

Despite the 2-1 defeat, he was very pleased to have had the opportunity to show what he can do at senior club level.

"It was a really good experience, everything happened really quickly going from Man City and coming in here," he said.

"But it was good to be thrown into it.

"Obviously I'm disappointed we lost and I didn't keep a clean sheet but I don't think I could've done anything about the goals.

"I was pleased with my performance otherwise."

Johansen was due to make his second start in the away trip to Bury just three days later, however, the game was postponed on Tuesday afternoon due to a frozen pitch at Gigg Lane.

"I was very disappointed, I couldn't really believe it because the weather back in Manchester was fine at the time," he admitted.

"But I think all of the lads were really up for it against Bury.

"It was going to be an important game, and it's been re-arranged now so it will still be a very important game.

"We're always looking for another win, whether it's against Bury or Notts County.

"But I suppose it's a little more important getting points from those teams in and around you."

The Scunthorpe squad will now be looking to Saturday's game at Meadow Lane, hoping they can get back to winning ways.

Because of the cancellation on Tuesday, Johansen and the rest of United's players have trained in preparation for this weekend's match, and the Iron's man between the sticks expects a tough encounter.

He added: "I've got some clips of Notts County which I'm going to watch and obviously we've done a few good days of training because of the game being called off Tuesday.

"So we've trained Wednesday and Thursday, and our last day will be Friday, which will be decent preparation before the game on Saturday.

"We've been inside the shed at the training ground and it's been alright."

He continued: "I think every game is going to be tough. As soon as you get down to the bottom of the table and get out of that relegation battle, every game is a tough one.

"I don't expect it to be any different against Notts County."
