INJURED JENNINGS RETURNS

15 December 2013

United can confirm that striker Connor Jennings has returned to the club following an injury, prematurely ending his loan spell with Macclesfield Town.

The Skrill Premier Player of the Month for November was set to remain with the Silkmen until early January, but following consultation with both clubs, he has returned to the Iron.

“I’ve spoken to Connor on Friday,” caretaker manager Russ Wilcox told The Iron Player.

“He had his operation yesterday (Friday) and it’s a problem in his calf area. I don’t want to go into too much detail because I’m not an expert in those lines, but it is a bad injury he has received.”

He added: “He’s got another operation tonight (Saturday) and I’ll speak to him again in the morning.”

The Conference’s top goalscorer was revelling in his loan spell with the former league club – with many fans looking forward to his return to Glanford Park in January. Although he has returned, he will now face a spell on the sidelines in a bid to recover from his injury.

“It started as a dead leg,” he continued.

“That’s something your body normally filters away. It hasn’t done that and that’s when it can become a problem; it can become a blood clot. What they’ve had to do is cut into the calf to release the pressure.”

He added: “It’s been a serious operation and an injury that they’ve had to look after very quickly.”

It’s another injury setback for the forward near to the start of another opportunity as a Scunthorpe United player after proving himself to be the true hotshot of non-league football since his loan spell commenced. The United caretaker manager voiced his frustrations for Jennings, who is yet to get started in claret and blue.

“It’s just a bad injury that’s really disappointing – for everybody really - ourselves, Macclesfield and more importantly Connor himself,” said Wilcox.

“We just wish him a speedy recovery, we will assess him, see how he is and he will come back to us for his rehab because he is our player.”
