Callum Roberts

The 26-year-old becomes the Iron’s 11th summer recruit and arrives from the Scottish Premier League side just under 12 months after moving north of the border.

Formerly of Newcastle United, where he spent a decade in the academy between 2005 and 2015, he signed a professional contract in the January shortly after making his professional debut in an FA Cup tie against Leicester City. Four years on, he netted his first professional goal in the same competition, this time against Blackburn Rovers.

During his time at the Magpies, he spent time out on loan at Gateshead, Kilmarnock and Colchester United before signing for Blyth Spartans permanently in 2019. Gaining experience of National League North, Roberts scored 17 goals in his campaign at the club, earning himself a move to Notts County, where he would register 20 goals in his time at Meadow Lane.

With appearances for England U20s and England C, he spent last season at Pittodrie but is looking forward to moving back into the English game: “It’s an exciting project to be part of. Obviously the club is not where it should be and I want to help get the club back into the EFL. It’s going to be exciting times for the club and fans this coming season.

Injury's would prevent Roberts from excelling in his first season for the club, however glimpses of his limitless talent shone through and new First Team Manager Andy Butler said on multiple occasions that he had big plans for the Winger ahead 0f the 2024-25 seasons. And Roberts wouldn't dissapoint in his second campaign with the club, winning all of the club's player of the year awards accompanied by a prolific season as he collected an impressive 32 goal contributions of the course of the campaign. The winger would put pen to paper on a new deal with the club in the summer of 2025.
