Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Ken Houghton, at the age of 85.

A striker during his playing days, Houghton represented Rotherham United, Hull City and the Iron, where he scored a combined total of 140 goals in 434 league appearances.

While with the Millers, the side would be Football League Cup runners-up in 1960-61, while he would achieve promotion from the Third Division while with Hull City in 1965-66 following a £40,000 fee paid in January 1965. With 304 appearances under his belt for the Tigers, his next move would be the Old Show Ground in 1973-74 where he would score five goals in 33 appearances.

He would later transition between playing and coaching as he took a dual role at Scarborough, leading them to the final of the FA Trophy in 1974-75, while also returning to Hull City in 1976 as Youth Development Officer, after a stint at Bridlington Town, before being bumped up to the first team as caretaker manager, and then full-time manager in 1978. He would depart the club in December 1979.

The thoughts of everyone at Scunthorpe United are with Ken's family and friends at this difficult time.
