Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Ivor Williams, at the age of 90.

A local lad, born in Scunthorpe, Williams was a goalkeeper, and had a stint in the side during the 1959-60 campaign, with the club in Division Two.

With Ken Hardwick coming out of the side, Ivor was handed his debut in early October in a 2-2 home draw against Ipswich Town at the Old Show Ground. He would go on to play eight times for the first team in that stint, with three wins, three draws and two defeats his record while between the sticks. His only clean sheet would come in the 1-0 away win at Brighton and Hove Albion.

While at the club for longer, eight years on the books to be precise, but those would be the only eight senior appearances he would make for the side, as he was replaced in goal by Ken Jones.

When he first signed for the club in 1953, he would won the Lincolnshire FA Intermediate Cup for the under-18s, while he also served for two years in the National Service with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

After leaving the club, he would represent Appleby Frodingham in 1960. While with the side, he celebrated winning the Lincolnshire League and League Cup in 1962-63 before moving on to Ashby Institute in 1964-65 and Barton Town in 1965 for four campaigns in the Yorkshire League. He later returned to Normanby Park in the Lincolnshire League to be manager, the side he played for at the age of 17, while he also joined Trinity FC in the Sunday League and represented Lions Head for a spell. He played 125 games for Trinity and became manager when they won their only Championship in 1980 in Division Three. Despite being a goalkeeper, he even had a couple of games in attack and scored two goals. He stopped playing in 1982.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Ivor's family and friends at this sad time.
