Scunthorpe United can confirm defender Michael Kelly will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in order to accept an offer at a fellow National League club.

The 27-year-old left-back arrived at the Iron two years ago from Eastleigh following a two-year stint at the southern-based club in the National League. Born in Scotland, he made 60 appearances in two campaigns for the side prior to his arrival at the club, while he has also represented Aberdeen, Leicester City, Hurlford United, Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town.

Also representing his country at U15, U16 and U17 level, Kelly became a firm leader in the Iron dressing room over his 24 months at the club, shown by his vocality on the pitch, particularly towards the end of last season as he put together a string of appearances to help the club over the line to promotion back to the National League.

Over the course of his two year stay at Scunthorpe, he made a total of 62 appearances, scoring three goals. Last season, he made a total of 34 league appearances, 17 of which starts, netting twice. Both of his goals this campaign came at home towards the end of the season, firstly ramming in what proved to be the winner in the Community Day against Chester in March before another in the 2-0 win over Spennymoor Town in April.

Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Scunthorpe United did enter negotiations with Michael and offer him a new deal for the forthcoming season, but the offer made by a fellow National League club was too good of one to turn down for the defender.

Everyone at Scunthorpe United would like to thank Michael for his efforts while with the club, and wish him all the very best for the future.
