Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Mick Gannon at the age of 81.
Gannon, a defender, spent two seasons with the club between 1962 and 1964, making a total of 15 appearances.
Raised with nine siblings, he joined Everton straight from school, signing a professional contract shortly after his 17th birthday. He would be given three senior starts by the Toffees, all of which last left-back at the end of the 1961-62 campaign.
He would join the Iron in the summer for £5,500, spending two seasons in Lincolnshire before switching back to the west coast, joining Crewe Alexandra. It was with the Railwaymen where he would make the best imprints in his footballing career, exceeding over 200 appearances for the side, and enjoying promotion from Division Four in 1968.
Altrincham would be his next footballing move, as he dropped to non-league, before choosing to become a joiner following his retirement from playing.
The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Mick's family and friends.
