New vastly experienced Iron signing Liam McAlinden gives his reaction to joining the club following his departure from League Two side Wrexham AFC.

When firstly asked his opinion on joining the club, the versatile forward replied: “I'm obviously delighted to get everything sorted. It’s been going on for a couple of days now, but I’m excited to get going.”

Following his departure from Wrexham, McAlinden gave an insight into what it was like in the North of Wales since his arrival in the July 2021: “I had a great time there - two-and-a-half years - which was a really successful period for me, but obviously everything comes to an end and hopefully now I can bring the same success here too.

“The lads here have got themselves into a really good position, I just want to come in to try and help get us promoted, which is the immediate plan.”

When asked how he’s found looking in from the outside at United’s recently turbulent times, he stated: “This club is one that everyone knows and one I’ve played against many times up and down the levels. Last year it obviously wasn’t great but now the lads have put themselves in a great position to bounce straight back at the first time of asking.”

In regard to what McAlinden believes he can bring to the Scunthorpe squad he continued: “Hopefully I can bring goals. I go into every game looking to create and score as well as bringing that bit of experience that is needed to help the lads get over the line.”

With the Iron approaching a crucial top of the table clash against Scarborough Athletic, McAlinden spoke about how he’s already got one eye on the weekends encounter by saying: “I’m fit and ready to go and whilst we’ve been in talks, I’ve had a quick look at the upcoming fixtures. It’s a busy but important week ahead with two difficult away games where we’ve got to try and achieve maximum points.”
