The midfielder’s made 24 appearances for parent club Derby in Sky Bet League One so far this term, following 23 in the Championship last season, and is looking forward to the challenge ahead with the Iron.

“It’s been in the pipeline for quite a bit now [the loan deal],” he started.
“I’m happy to get it done now and be here.”

“They’re all fresh faces, a fresh dressing room,” he added too.

Delving deeper into the backing manager Dean has given the youngster, he revealed: “He was happy to finally get me in. All his words have been positive and I can’t wait to get started.”

"The club's in a place it doesn’t want to be, so hopefully we can stay up this year and keep fighting to avoid relegation.”

With 24 appearances in all competitions under his belt this season, the midfielder admitted it was less than he’d have liked so far.

“It’s been really good,” regarding his experiences at Derby County so far.

“This season, I haven’t really got as many minutes as I’d wish for but that’s football sometimes.”

With games the aim, as well survival, the midfielder added: “I want to get some minutes under my belt, get games in and get some experience so I’m looking forward to it.”

The Iron face Notts County next on the road this Saturday, with over a thousand supporters set to back the lads, with Thompson touching on the game saying: “It’ll be a tough game, we know that, but we've got to go there confident on the back of the weekend. Hopefully we can get a big three points."
