Andy Butler joins Jimmy Dean's backroom staff

21 June 2023

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce that former player and Youth Development Phase Coach Andy Butler has joined Jimmy Dean's backroom staff as First Team Coach.

The 39-year-old has vast experience within the game and needs no introduction to Iron fans following his previous spells with the club.

He returned to Glanford Park for a third stint in the autumn of 2022 having first played for the club between 2002 and 2008 before again playing for the club in the 2019-20 campaign.

Over the course of his career, the former Iron academy graduate played in excess of 700 games, including 174 for the Iron, and was still featuring for Farsley Celtic last season as the side survived relegation from the Vanarama National League North.

His first stint in the dugout came with Doncaster Rovers Belles, taking the team in January 2020 and remaining there for two-and-a-half years before resigning to come back to United. During that time, he became First Team Coach at Peterborough United while still playing for Boston United, before returning to Rovers to be part of their men's first team backroom staff, as well as continuing with the Belles.

In March 2021, he was installed as caretaker manager of the first team at Doncaster, managing the remaining 18 games of the season.
