Report: Iron U18s 2-0 Hartlepool United U18s

18 February 2023

The Iron’s Under-18s beat Hartlepool United 2-0 at Appleby Frodingham in the Youth Alliance League earlier on Saturday morning, with Harrison Poulter netting a brace.

United took the lead after 37 minutes played, as a clever set-piece was played into the feet of Poulter, who spun excellently inside the area to fire the side ahead.

Dominating possession in large spells, Scunthorpe battled well to keep hold of their lead, with the first half seeing little chances for either team in both boxes.

With just under half an hour left to play, Poulter again received the ball into his feet, before turning his man and winning a penalty, after forcing the Hartlepool defender into a foul.

Poulter then stepped up to convert the effort, doubling both his and the Iron’s tally in the game.

Praising his side's performance across the 90 minutes, Professional Development Phase Coach Rob Watson was happy his side could get back to winning ways.

He said: "It was a dominant performance all in all, I thought the lads performed brilliantly and controlled the game, whilst also limiting Hartlepool to very little across the 90 minutes.

"With Ty [Sellars-Fleming] going out on loan to Gainsborough, it was important to shake up the frontline and Harrison did very well today.

"We also saw three of our Under-15s get out and gain some minutes late on, which is always a bonus in terms of their own development."

The Iron Under-18s return to action on Febraury 28 in the Youth Alliance League, playing host to Harrogate Town at Appleby-Frodingham.
