Reagan Ogle: It's a great start

22 August 2023

2022-23 player of the season Reagan Ogle gives his opinion on Saturday's 3-0 win over Rushall Olympic.

When asked if the score line reflected the team’s performance, he said: “The first half was a bit scrappy and neither team was able to get control of the ball - probably the complete opposite to Tuesday night.

"I can see that becoming a regular occurrence, especially in these away games, but it’s good that the boys dug deep and refused to sit on a 1-0 lead, which led to us getting two more goals."

After making an incredible save to keep the score at 1-0, the Iron defender commented on goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons’ performance: “Ideally, you want your keeper to not really have anything to do in a game, but when needed you want him to be there and to pull your defenders out of trouble which he did on more than one occasion, and he made some great saves."

The Iron recorded their second consecutive away win for the first time since December 2020 on Saturday. He spoke about overcoming that stat after the game: “It’s unbelievable.

"Last year if we went 1-0 up then we would try sit back and defend that lead, but with lads we have in this squad that’s never going to happen we always try to keep playing the way we’re playing and kick on to get a second or third goal."

United’s unbeaten start sees them sit top of the Vanarama National League North after the opening four fixtures and he concluded with this in reflection: “It’s a great start.

"I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better one, but it’s important we keep playing the way we’re playing, especially with the home performances and hopefully we can turn them into away form too."
