Elliott looks forward

14 April 2023

Striker Danny Elliott has spoken about the Iron's relegation from the National League and looked ahead to tomorrow's away fixture against Aldershot.

The forward began by talking about the mood in the camp after Easter Monday's defeat to Oldham, saying: “It was devastating for everyone, you can see how much it means to the fans and the players. There are a lot of new faces, like myself, who haven’t been here too long but it hurts just as much. We came in here with a job to do but obviously we haven’t been able to achieve it, so it’s just about looking forward to next year so we can bounce back as quickly as possible.”

Elliott then spoke about the last three games of the season, adding: “I think that picking up as many points as we can, putting in good performances, and giving the fans something to be excited about for next season is really important. Ending on as much as a high as we can and gaining a bit of personal pride for the club.”

On Saturday's fixture, he said: “I think it’ll be a tough game. I’ve played them already this season, they’re a good team and it’s a difficult place to go, but we’re looking forward to getting back on the pitch and making an impression on them.”

Elliott hopes to use the last three games to get up and running for the Iron, saying: “I’m really looking forward to getting my first goal for the club, it’s been a while, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the goal train really.”

Looking ahead to next season, he said: “I think with the size of the club, the fans, and the infrastructure behind the club, there’s no reason why the club shouldn’t bounce back. It’s going to take a lot of effort from everyone as it’s a difficult league, it’s not as easy as people might think and it’s as mathematically hard as this league as essentially you have to win it. I think with the right personnel, there’s no reason why shouldn’t get back up though.”

Elliott also commented on the challenge of a larger club playing in a lower division, saying: “When you see the size of the stadium and hear the noise of the fans, who are incredible, you see the size of the club. I think a lot of players who come here won’t have played in front of a crowd like this, so it’s important that we get players who understand the enormity of the game and are prepared to take it to each team.”

Elliott, who scored 31 goals for Boston playing in the division last season, continued: “Its important we get a variety of players as we’re going to need a variety of styles playing at different stadiums in different conditions, as some pitches are a lot better than others.”

Finally, the attacker spoke about the importance making next season a good one, adding: “From what I understand the club's been on a slippery slope over the last few years and that’s something that myself and the other new players knew coming in here. We wanted to put it right, we didn’t do that the first time of asking, but hopefully we can do something really positive next season and get the club back to where it needs to be.”
