Scunthorpe United was saddened to learn of the recent passing of former central defender Alan Anderson.

Alan, who passed away at the end of February aged 82, made six appearances for us during the 1962-63 season.

The Edinburgh-born defender joined Millwall from Falkirk in 1959 and made 74 appearances during three years there, helping the Lions win the Division Four championship.

He went on to sign for the Iron, and appeared in matches against Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle, Preston North End, Portsmouth, Cardiff City and Leeds United,

Capped seven times for Scotland, he went on to sign for Hearts after leaving the Iron, who he captained and made over 350 appearances for.

Our thoughts are with Alan's family and friends at this sad time.
