The Iron put an opening day defeat to Bristol Rovers behind them in 2003-04 with a Steve Torpey inspired victory against Bury.
Torpey netted his first after 39 minutes after a pull back from strike partner Paul Hayes, with Chris Porter grabbing an equaliser on the stroke of half time with his first senior strike.
Torpey restored the advantage shortly after half time, turning in a strike from Matt Sparrow with Peter Beagrie cutting inside to net Scunthorpe's third from outside the area.
The frontman could have had his hat-trick two minutes from time, but the linesman ruled his third out for offside.

Hopper then latched onto a through ball from Luke Williams to be brought down for a penalty, with Josh Morris stepping up to make it 2-0 shortly after, before the hosts piled on the pressure in the second half and pulled one goal back.
